Anthidium manicatum male 8"x10" Print
Scientific illustration of a male European Wool Carder Bee (Anthidium manicatum). Watermarks do not appear on the final print.
Yikes! Spikes! Male wool carder bees are extremely territorial and will launch themselves at any other bee that approaches their turf, grabbing and pinning them down and using the spikes as a weapon, occasionally even killing the invading offender. Interestingly, these bees are actually the invaders in the U.S. since they originally hail from Europe. Questions have been raised about their potential impact on native bees, but promising studies may indicate that these bees are mostly found near suburban properties- you know, the types where HOAs dictate that you have to plant European (or Asian) non-native plants, which are from A. manicatum's homeland and they seem to prefer. Hopefully they aren't entering a lot of natural areas in large enough numbers to make a significant impact on our native bees.
Print created from my original colored pencil drawing and printed on fine art paper.
The standard 8"x10" size is easily matted into an 11"x14" mat and frame. A great size for any room! (Frame is not included, just for demonstration purposes.)
The print comes to you in a compostable protective plastic sleeve with a hard backing and is signed by me. My 8"x10" prints will arrive on paper larger than 8"x10" to add some "wiggle-room" if you are putting the print under a mat. The print can be trimmed down to fit without a mat into an 8"x10" frame.
